Green Roof Stars
Plants in this section have proven to be particularly hardy, resilient, and aesthetically pleasing in a green roof environment. They will thrive in a wide range of hardiness zones, soil depths, and climatic conditions. A mix of ground covers and accent plants are included.

Sedum kamtsch. var. flor. ‘Weihenstephaner Gold’
Strong dark green foliage, with bright yellow to yellow-orange flowers in summer. Small red rosettes in winter. Shade tolerant. -
Sedum kamtschaticum
Superior green roof plant. A carpet of yellow flowers. In trials at Michigan State University, this plant survived over 80 days without water. Looks a bit like Pachysandra from a distance. -
Sedum middendorffianum var. diffusum
Very durable ground cover, with strong green foliage. Blooms yellow in early summer. Russet winter foliage. -
Sedum montanum ssp. orientale
Year-round blue-green to blue-gray needle-like foliage. Nearly identical looking to Sedum reflexum 'Blue Spruce', but a more heat tolerant variety. -
Sedum sexangulare
A green roof staple - vigorous, mat-forming Sedum, with tiny green foliage and small yellow flowers. Thrives in both sun and shade. -
Sedum sichotense
Also known as Sedum middendorffianum var. sichotense. Longer green leaves turn a nice crimson in fall and winter. Good plant for seasonal color. -
Sedum spurium ‘John Creech’
A very fast grower with dense green foliage and beautiful pink flowers. Reliably tough. -
Sedum spurium ‘Schorbuser Blut’
An outstanding selection for red foliage. Bright red leaves and a great looking plant year-round. Very robust grower. -
Talinum calycinum
Also known as Phemeranthus calycinus, Talinum calycinum is vigorous and showy. Incredible bright pink flowers over needle-shaped leaves. Blooms every afternoon, from early summer until the first frost. US Native.
