Phedimus takesimensis
Description
This species is remarkably similar in appearance to the well-known green roof star, Sedum kamtschaticum, having nearly identical foliage, flower color, bloom time, and drought tolerance. However, Phedimus takesimensis holds its leaves much later into the winter season, and new leaves emerge much earlier than Sedum kamtschaticum. Green basal rosettes persist throughout the winter months. In mild winters, or in protected spots, the plant may retain its foliage up until late winter. This species has a dense, mounding form that fills in quickly. A good choice for green roofs where rapid coverage is important, this is a hardy and dependable green roof plant. An excellent choice also for planting on a wall. Will tolerate some shade.
